My last birth on the 28 of March 2000 was a planned home birth. Timothy was born as a vaginal frank Breech he weight 9lb 3 about 20 hours after he was born as this was the first time that he was weight. The day that I went in to labor with him I was two weeks over due. I had a midwife appointment and he was not breach and we had decided not to have a U/S in 2 day time to see if the baby was ok. I went into labor 2 hours later and he had turn in this time to be breech. I went in to labor at 10:00 at night and it was a very easy labor but things progressed very fast for me as my last labors had been 12h, 26h and 17h at 1:00 my membranes ruptured and I called the midwife to tell her I was in labor. She said to call me again when I wanted her to come. I called in 30 minis and said that fluid was clear but there was brow bits in it. She said that she would come strait away (she lives one and a half hours away) about half an hour after taking to the midwife about 2:00 am I felt the urge to push I knew that the midwife was about an hour away but I decided push anyway I did this for about 30 min but it did not feel right so I decided to change positions to a position that I could resist the urge to push in. When the midwife arrived at 3:00 am she examined me and decided that I was fully dilated and the baby was breech. That was why it feel weird to push compared to my other births and the reason for the brown stuff was that timothy's legs where pushing on his stomach making him poo and that was the brown stuff. The midwife suggested that I go into our on suite and lean on the vanity to push as she had found this position had worked for other breach births that she had attended. This position worked well and Timothy was born 35 min later at 3:50 AM into his dad hands He was not breathing at first and was given oxygen he started breathing in under 2 mins and got and Apgar of 7 at 1min and 10 at 5 min. The birth was my easier than several of my other births and by far my favorite. I had one baby that was born prone and had a longer second stage and was much more painful. Up until now the labor had only been 5h 50 min. We waited for 3d stage but I never feet any more contractions. I feed Timothy, tried pushing with out contractions and tried sitting on the toilet pushing the midwife tried cord contractions at this time and the cord came off. I went in the shower to trying to relax and get the contractions happening but noting worked. Then the midwife tried to do a manual removal of the placenta but this did not work either. By this time I had lost a lot of blood and was showing sings of shock. My BP was 60 over 40. So My husband called the ambulance and the midwife put a drip of in. On arrival the ambulance put two more drips in making a total of 3 going at once. In the ambulance my bp went down to 40 over nothing. On arrival at the hospital they tried another manual remove of the placenta but this did not work. Both times the manual removal of the placenta was attempted I was given no meds and this was way more painful then delivering a 9lb 3 vaginal frank Breech. As this did not work they made me sign the paper work agreeing to blood transfusions and Hysterectomy if needed I singed feeling very up set as I do like blood transfusions and I wanted to have more children. They then sent me to OR where I had a manually removal of the placenta under general anaesthesia at 7:45 making the 3rd stage 3hr 55 mins and a total of 9h 45 from start to finish. I them spent 10h in recovery as I was still losing a lot of blood and they where still considering doing a hysterectomy. They did not end up doing this but I had 28 liters of blood and blood product and had to stay in ICU for one day and hospital for two weeks. During my stay in hospital Timothy stayed with me and got a golden staff infection in his blood and became very sick with it. As he was a breach birth the hospital wanted to do a hip U/S at 6 weeks this showed mild hip dyslexia they agreed to repeat the test in 4 weeks this time his hips looked fine. I took Timothy to a osteopath as soon as he got out of hospital as breach births can cause the head to be miss formed and he worked on his hips as well Timothy only need 4 appointment. In conclusion Timothy had no side affect of been born breach Virginal and my PPH could have happened whether he was born breach or not. If I had know he was breech before I went in to labor I would have still had him at home my midwife and I had already discussed this and we where both happy that I could do this at home so when we found out that he was breech we did not even discuss going to hospital. If I had a choose I would do it all again the same way. I am happy that he was born at home and I am happy with the birth. It was the 3rd stage that was a problem and this could happen in any birth be it at home or a breach or normal. I still want more children and I want them to be born at home. If you have any think else that you would like to know I would be happy to answer. I have got all my files from the hospital so I know all of the details.
